Physical Education and Health
| Holistic Physical Fitness (secondary IV, V) |
|
| This is a non-competitive approach to physical education that will focus on: yoga, pilates, aerobic exercise, free weight training and stretching. There will also be opportunities to participate in outings: hiking, swimming, kickboxing, other. This will depend on availability of facilities and cost. This course is for students who enjoy physical exercise. |

| Outdoor Education (Secondary IV, V) |
|
| The student will focus on the relationship between good health and physical activity related to a healthy lifestyle. Students will be introduced to several outdoor activities which they will relate to their abilities, needs, motivation, lifestyle and knowledge of health promotion. Some themes include fitness, safety, nutrition and lifestyle awareness. |

| Physical Education (secondary III) |
|
| This course emphasizes students’ participation in a variety of enjoyable physical activities that promote lifelong healthy active living. Students will learn movement techniques and principles, ways to improve personal fitness, and physical competence in areas such as soccer, field hockey, yoga, weight training, Nordic skiing and golf. An initial fitness assessment will be made during the first cycle of classes upon which students will attempt to improve their scores throughout the year. Evaluation will be based on participation, attitude, preparedness as well as tests/assignments. |

| Physical Education (secondary IV) |

| This course emphasizes regular participation in a variety of enjoyable group and individual physical activities that promote lifelong healthy active living. Student learning will include the application of movement principles to refine skills; participation in a variety of activities that enhance personal competence, fitness, and health. An initial fitness assessment will be made during the first cycle of classes from which students will attempt to create a fitness program designed to improve aerobic fitness and muscular strength during the year. Evaluation is calculated on participation, attitude, preparedness and test/assignments. The theory component of the course includes nutrition and weight training principles. |

| Physical Education (secondary V) |

| In this course students will be required to wear proper shoes and clothes, participate, and have a positive attitude. Students will be instructed and tested on individual and team skills/concepts. In the health and fitness component students will learn how to better maintain lifelong well-being via the use of school workout facilities. The majority of the mark will be comprised through a Participation Rubric; the remaining portion will be based on tests and/or assignments. |

| Team Sports (secondary V) |
|
| In this course students will gain knowledge of concepts and strategies of team sports. Ability to inter-relate with fellow students in an effective and positive manner is vital. There will be written and practical tests. |
